KathNiel Fever: The Magic of Got To Believe

Got To Believe is being aired every night at Abs-Cbn's Primetime Bida right now. Well, for a Filipino TV geek, who doesn't know that anyway?

#imnotakathnielfan #G2BMovingOn #G2BMagic and the list goes on have been taking it's reserved spot in Twitter and other social networking sites. I, myself even used those hashtags a lot lately. WHY. Let me explain to you how these gorgeous teens hailed the Primetime slot and how they caught the attention of many viewers worldwide.

Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo is probably the most popular love team of this generation. I don't mind if they are real sweethearts or not but all I know they have this great chemistry on screen. Let's just don't deny the fact that we even get "kilig" when Daniel Padilla starts staring at Kathryn Bernardo as if he's going to eat her up. These two kids are really making the hearts of many Filipinos especially the teens fall for their on and off screen drama love affair.

Honestly, I, myself got hit by that "magic" in their new soap, Got To Believe. I believe it's their third week now, not sure though. But I'm sure that I haven't skipped an episode of it. The storyline is interesting and everyone can relate just like BCWMH. It depicts a typical Filipino Family who wishes nothing but the good for their children. Ian Veneracion and Carmina Villaroel plays the role of Joaquin's (Daniel Padilla) protective parents while Manilyn Reynes and Benjie Paras is playing the fun and bubbly parents of Chichay (Kathryn Bernardo).

Ahem. "Papa Bear" / "Mama Bear"? Can relate? LOL.

Chichay can be sometimes irritating. I get affected every time she have done something to get Joaquin scolded at. Haha. I also get annoyed with Joaquin when he looks at Kathryn with so much hatred. I hate these kids for making my head hurt. Yes, sometimes.

The Teen Kilig Factor. It's obvious. Who doesn't have crushes waaay back high school and college? If you don't have, bet you're such a geek who kisses his books and skips lunch just to score an A. *oops, bully me*


My first review on Got To Believe:

Although it's pretty clear what will happen in the story, still, it brings back a youthful joy to the viewers. I love the sequence, how it was choreographed, the cast, the plot, location set and just about everything. Filipinos are tired of watching heavy drama that would give you stress before sleeping. Viewers want something fresh and a unique kind of drama that would make them laugh, smile and have a good night sleep after a long day from school and work.

Anyway, let the magic continues.... as Joaquin and Chichay goes to the same college. *excited*

Movie Review | On The Job

A review on one of the epic movies of this generation - On The Job.

The story evolved on the lives of an in-cell triggerman, top corrupt/self-centered officials in the country, loyal policeman and an NBI agent torn between "katarungan and kagaguhan." The characters were portrayed by Sir Joel Torre as Tatang, the PRO hitman, Gerald Anderson as Daniel, the hitman's apprentice, Piolo Pascual as Atty. Francisco Coronel, the NBI agent, Leo Martinez as General Pacheco and Joey Marquez as SPO1 Acosta.

Sir Joel Torre (Tatang) and Gerald Anderson (Daniel) are being paid to kill. That's their job. They are hired by a certain person named "Mam Thelma." She's the middle person who takes in charge in knocking down the people who gets in between the operations of her boss' boss. Being "On The Job" for Tatang is just for the sake of bringing food on the table back at their home, he showed no mercy everytime he shots his victim, thinking that every bullet that comes out of the barrel is a decent life for his family. As what he often says to his apprentice in the film, "Ito, trabaho lang." Daniel who started as a backup or lookout is Tatang's apprentice, an ambitious, young hotshot guy, however, he is being trained to become a hitman once Tatang "retires" or once he gets his parole. Both of them are prisoners in a city jail. They are being pulled out from the cell whenever they have an operation. On The Job will show you the truth behind bars but will also depict the screaming reality on what our beloved elected legislators and highly respected officials do outside their main lines.

There will always be one good egg in a tray of spoiled eggs. This is what the character of Atty. Francis Coronel (married to Nikki played by Shaina Magdayao) is trying to portray, an NBI agent, who happens to be the son-in-law of a filthy congressman who's in allies with Gen. Pacheco. Pacheco is said to be the man on top of the killing operations done by Tatang and Daniel. On his verge of becoming good in his craft and to prove that there is still hope in becoming truthful to what he believed in, he clashes with the different personalities with big names in the government, to the point that he is battling against his own father-in-law.

SPO1 Acosta (Joey Marquez) is a lowlife policeman who looks at his job with so much pride. His more than 30 years in service (as quoted in the film), is a proof that being in service to the PNP is supposedly a noble job. Oh well. However, things weren't as smooth for him like missing out a promotion because he's not a puppet of his boss and there's a good friend being dragged to killing cases.

On The Job is by far the best action thriller movie of this generation. In this generation wherein we got used to Horror, Romantic Flicks and Flashy Comedy, this is a good start for an Action Thriller to be back in pace. The scenes were greatly choreographed. I got lost in a whirlwind of emotions especially in the hospital scene and when Atty. Francis Coronel was getting out of his car. I just didn't expect things to turn out that way, which is indeed something "new" for a Filipino movie. The main setting of the movie also took place in the sub-areas of Manila where you are able to witness and fully absorb the screaming reality of poverty and criminality. I hate to admit this, but OTJ revealed the truth we're facing today.

I commend Sir Joel Torre for always being at his best, if there's a word "bestest," then I may use it to describe how great he was in this movie. He only showed the viewers and his co-actors how beautiful it is to become a Filipino actor. Gerald Anderson on the other hand is amazing. You will be surprised as he shows his "astig" side on this film, a very different trait as to what we see in his previous movies. After seeing OTJ, there's more to Gerald than what meets the eye. I'm also glad to see Joey Marquez back on silver screen. The role of an upright policeman fitted him right. He carries this serious yet funny character. Surprisingly in this nitty-gritty film, he did it so well. Then we have Piolo Pascual as the NBI agent. He played his character very well although he's being overshadowed by the characters of Joel Torre and Gerald, I think that was enough proof that these days, "talo ng matitinik and mababait."

For me, On The Job is not just a movie, it's an experience. Napakahusay!

Congratulations to the whole team for crafting a film as wonderful as this.

K-drama: Gu Family Book / The Love Story of Kang Chi

I was told by my friend to watch the Gu Family Book a month ago but I got hesitant because I'm not really a fan of Time Travel Drama (except for Rooftop Prince and Sungkyunwan Scandal). I also don't know the lead stars (okay, Lee Seung Ki and Suzy fans - kill me now!) so I didn't bother to watch but just two weeks ago, I decided to give it a try since I ran out of dramas to watch.

The Beginning

From episodes 1-3, I didn't blink an eye (weh!). The first part of the series was about Kang Chi's history. It showed the love story of his parents Wol Ryung (divine creature/Gumiho) and Seo Hwa (human) and how they were separated by fear and hesitations.

Wol Ryung a divine creature (protector of the rivers and mountains in the forest) fell in love with Seo Hwa, the daughter of a businessman who was killed by Lord Bi Jo (later known as Jo Gwan-Woong) to obtain his wealth and properties. Seo Hwa's oroignal fate was to become a gisaeng but Wol Ryung saved her but Seo Hwa didn't know that Wol Ryung is a gumiho. She was saved and eventually fell in love with Wol Ryung, got married and got pregnant. Wol Ryung really loved Seo Hwa that he even wanted to become a human with the help of the Gu Family Book. The test in order for Wol Ryung to become a human is to pray for 100 days, should not help/save anyone who needs his help and should not reveal to any human being that he is a divine creature. Well he did the 90 days successfully but the final 10 days was a failure...

The happy marriage they shared for a few months turned into something tragic. Seo Hwa was captured by villains (Lord Bi Jo's team) and as Wol Ryung tried saving her, it was also then revealed that he was a divine creature (which is supposedly not to happen). To Seo Hwa's surprise, she was scared and ran away from Wol Ryung. To cut the story short, Seo Hwa surrendered her love for Wol Ryung because of fear and anger and reported it to the authorities and Wol Ryung got killed by then military head, Dam Pyeong-Joon only to realize how much she loved him despite of that -- what can we, it's too late! Months later, she gave birth to a boy and was abandoned in the river.

On Wo Ryul and Seo Hwa: From MAGIC to TRAGIC. That's how I define it. LOL.

Choi Kang Chi, The Beginning

Kang means river and Chi means abandoned, this is the beginning of Kang Chi's story. So excited!

While having a small feast by the river, Lord Park heard a baby crying, he then saw this basket flowing in the river, he held it and saw a baby. So Jung, a monk (best friend of Wol Ryung) told Lord Park to take care of the baby and adopt him as this child will bring luck and fortune to their business which is at that time not doing any good. So Jung also gave Kang Chi a bracelet and told Lord Park not to remove it until he reaches the age of 20. This bracelet will be Kang Chi's protection that would hide his real identity of being a half divine creature and half human.

By which, Kang Chi was adopted by Park Mu-Sol or known as Lord Park of the Hundred Year Inn (where the story takes place most). As what So Jung told Lord Park, his business became the most successful in Joeson.

Kang Chi is loved by so many. He's a savior of the weak and abused, a good son to his adoptive father, Choi who's a servant to Lord Park. He's a happy go lucky kind of guy who has a warm heart for everyone. And even though he was not a biological son of Lord Park, he was treated as one.

Everything was doing well at the Hundred Year Inn until Jo Gwan-Woong decided to acquire Lord Park's business. Jo Gwan-Woong planned to also kill Lord Park but since Kang Chi promised to do everything to protect his loved one and the Hundred Year Inn, he was the one who faced Jo Gwan-Woong upfront. It was then when the real story of Kang Chi began, when Lord Park got killed while we was trying to protect Kang Chi.

Kang Chi, Lord Park's family and the family at the Hundred Year Inn felt low when Park Moo Sol died, he wanted revenge, he wanted to take what originally belonged to Lord Park and to the Hundred Year Inn. Later on, he also then realized that he wasn't an ordinary human being, that he was something even more special.


The Review

Gu Family book is really entertaining. You will fall in love with love more than a hundred times, will eventually fall for Kang Chi's killer smile, be lost in a whirlwind of emotions - hate Jo Gwan-Woong and want to stab him million times, fear death and will admire the strength, goodness and determination of all the characters.

My favorite character will of course be Choi Kang Chi and Dam Yeo-Wool. They are my favorite on-screen couple now, their love isn't developed in a matter of seconds unlike other drama series, it was a progressive love story that ended up to be a real one. The strength they draw from each other made me realize that love like this is just once in a lifetime. They are willing to save each other even though it means dying.

I smiled a lot, got really scared when they were using their bow and arrows, fell head over heels for their love story and cried for the heart breaking scenes which almost lead them to death. They also had the best kissing scene ever, it's so passionate that you would really think that they were real couples in real life. Arghhh, sweetness overload.

Negative note:

On Jo Gwan-Woong:

I just don't like Jo Gwan-Woong getting killed too long! I think I developed too much hatred on him until the episode 24, imagine being there from beginning to end. They should have shortened it or at least 15 episodes and added new villains as effective as him. He is so damn annoying! Hehe!

Gu Family Book related stuff

I think they have missed so much on this. The title is Gu Family book, but what happened to it? It got lost after the few last episodes, there's no conclusion to it. Sayang! Although a good conclusion to this was it wasn't that successful because even in the modern times, he couldn't resist helping and saving others.


Ending

It had a beautiful ending but not too convincing, I guess you should watch it yourself, it could have been better if they had a happily ever after.

Positive note:

24 episodes with a running time of 45mins will never be a waste. The story of the Gu Family Book will teach you so many things about love and life in general. The OST of the drama also made a mark in my head, argh!


Oh well, I just wish it had a Part Two! It's so good that I got addicted to it. LOL. Definitely, it's not boring!!! I think my standards for a Korean Drama just increased because of the good effect of the Love of Story of Kang Chi brought me! I don't want it to end. LOL!

Best Korean Movies of All Time

I grew up watching Korean and other asian movies, not because I've always been a fan of Korean dramas, but because their stories got something in it that made it so interesting.

Here are some of the Best Korean Movies I enjoyed watching:

1. Sassy Girl

Who will ever forget the movie, My Sassy Girl. Way back in the early 2000, this movie made a big fuss in our school. If I remember it right, this was the highest grossing Korean film of all time. It has a simple yet entertaining plot that would drown you into tears but will make you laugh all along.

2. iL Mare

Goosebumps, heart pounding and heart warming, these are the words that best describes Il Mare. The main characters both live there two years apart in time, but are able to communicate through a mysterious mailbox. I salute the writer and director for coming up with a story as beautiful as this.

Hint: Hollywood made a remake of this entitled "The Lake House."

3. The Classic

From friendship to love to an incurable sickness and memory loss. It really sucks but worth every minute of your time. This is probably one of my favorites!

8. Baby and Me

K-drama: Playful Kiss Review

Ahhhhh!! Talk about a lame Kim Hyun Joong fan. Ok, that's me.

I know for a fact that this korean drama was aired years back, but just to give you a hint on how lame I was, I just watched it last week.

Anyway, here goes.

Last 2010, if I remember it right, my housemates watched this on DVD but I never got to join them. I just heard them laughing and have this *kilig factor* (insert: my housemates are real men). It got me interested but since I was so busy back then, I wasn't able to watch it right away until last week.

The poster itself didn't entice me at all. It looked like a poster for some branding endorsement and not for a korean drama that would make your heart fall. LOL. Although I knew that it was the Korean version of ISWAK and ---- err, forgot the Japanese title. But then again, it proved me wrong. There's more to it than meets the eye.

Overview

Baek Sung Jo is a cool geek. He's a walking encyclopedia who knows almost all sorts of stuff except his own feelings. *cheesy* On the other hand, Oh Ha Ni is a go-getter but poor in academics, she knows what she wants and she knows that she's really into Baek Sung Jo. What do you think, does opposite really attracts? Hmm.

Oh Ha Ni is a stalker and is really a self-confessed Baek Sung Jo fanatic. She follows him on school and even wrote a love letter. But Baek Sung Jo, the-hard-to-get-rich-smart-guy is a sucker for a lousy and no-brainer Oh Ha Ni. Until one day, both of them were caught in a situation that they both couldn't escape, it was when Oh Ha Ni and her father was forced to live with his friend (Oh Ha Ni's dad) since their house was wrecked by an earthquake. Look at how fate made them closer, the best friend of his dad was Baek Sung Jo's dad. WHAT A SMALL WORLD. A happy small world for Ha Ni while a disastrous small world for Baek Sung Jo. Watch it yourself and see how these two different worlds collide!

There. I guess that would be an enough background for you to get curious :)

 Review

Playful Kiss is surprisingly entertaining, sweet and filled with unexpected excitement. It may have light moments but not considered as dull. The characters played by Kim Hyun Joong and Jung So Min were portrayed well. I didn't even expect that they would have this strong chemistry on screen. I love them really! I laughed a lot, got lost in a whirlwind of emotions, smiled and cried. I played rewind a couple of times for that episode below, oh my! Baek Sung Jo is so sweet, cool and gaaaah, makes me crazy!

My entire experience of the Playful Kiss Drama was awesome! I will never ever ever get tired of watching it over and over again.

Kim Hyun Joong <3 Jung So Min was indeed one of the best team up ever! I love it to bits.

What I have here is the Etude House Sun Guard Aqua Drop with SPF 33. Let me give you some idea on why you should have this not only during summer but throughout the year. It's a must-have, I must say.

I am not really a fan of sun blocks because it's sticky, yuck. Oops, sorry. But the Etude House Sun Guard Aqua Drop with SPF 33 proved me wrong. It's not sticky, it smells good and most of all, it doesn't give you that oily skin throughout the day. Well, that's for me, I don't know with other users. Maybe because it's water-based so I wasn't able to experience the icky feeling.

By reading it's literature, it says it's a moisturizing sun cream. True to it's name, yes.

Application:
Apply sun guard to sun exposed areas of the face/body and massage into skin.

Very simple, right? :)

K-drama: To The Beautiful You Review

HOLD UP Kdrama Fanatics! Feast your eyes!

I have watched this Kdrama (2012) once (just yet) but I waited patiently for every episode. Talk about waiting for uploads from our fellow Korean Drama addicts every after it was being aired in Korea. It's worth the sleepless nights and worth the stress of waiting for it to buff in YouTube or Daily Motion. I am talking about the To The Beautiful You.

To The Beautiful You is Korea's adaptation to Japan's Hanazakari no Kimitachi e and Taiwan's Hana Kim. It stars two of Etude House's beloved endorsers, Sulli and Minho. I never thought there would be a connection with the two artists since they both excel in their own fields as singers of famous Korean singing groups. Sulli from f(x) while Minho is from Shinee.

To begin with, To The Beautiful You is predictable as expected. Of course, it's a remake, what can we expect. But just being honest, it still gives me this kind of excitement. I still see to it that I don't miss any of its episode. Minho and Sulli has this connection that thrills the teenage soul in me.

The characters played by these famous artists are perfect for them. Choi Minho has an image of being so prim and proper, so he's perfect to be Kang Tae-Joon, strict, straightforward but at the same time, charming. Sulli on the other hand played Gu Jae-Hee, bubbly, friendly, cute and always wear a smile on her face. Cha Eun-Gyeol then was the clown in the series, I love his character! We all do, I know!

The Story

Kang Tae-Joon is a famous high jump athlete in Korea but he was caught in an accident that made him stop his sport. Gu Jae-Hee on the other hand is a fan girl from America who was inspired by Tae-Joon to become better and to excel. As a fan, she really wanted to see Tae-Joon jump again. She always believe that Kang Tae-Joon can do it again because he has this dreams and the willpower. She flew to Korea and did what she had planned but since Tae-Joon is enrolled in an all-boys school, Jae-Hee pretended to be a boy. The Review

1. The story of To The Beautiful You is again, predictable. It is not new but it came with some twists. The delivery of the story was cute and entertaining in general. Choi Minho is too cute not to notice and Sulli made a perfect pair with him for the remake. Their eyes say a lot whenever they exchange those heavy lines. It's a feel good kind of drama, too much hatred is not welcome. However, the ending was a bit off. I mean, there's a happy ending but it doesn't look like a Korean kind of drama for its end. Just see for yourself, I almost skipped that because it somehow ruined my whole feel for the drama.*insert puss-in-boots face*

2. The To The Beautiful You OST were awesome. Of course, both of them were from SM Entertainment so we will expect nothing but the finest music. Bias. Hihi. My favorite goes to Sunny and Luna for It's Me and I guess, ALL. The music played in the episodes just perfectly match, ahh. Music to my ears!

3. There's nothing to hate about To The Beautiful You. It will make you fall in love a thousand times and will make you remember those *puppy love* days. *insert puppy eyes*

4. All the cast did a great job for the drama. It's light, it's for the teens and teens at heart. You will enjoy the scenes and smile a lot throughout.


For those who think twice in giving this drama a look, don't. You may not LOVE it but for sure, you will LIKE it. Isn't it relaxing to watch some dramas that doesn't make your eyes popped because of too much tears? :) Honestly, while I am writing this review, I am also listening to the OST, it makes me want to watch it AGAIIIN. Nostalgia.

You know, for Filipino term, kilig-kiligan moments parang PBB Teens lang. Hohoho. I heard they're airing this on ABS-CBN for summer, well, enjoy! :)
